week in review

It was good to be back home and back into our "normal" routine this week. Although we have spent much of the week trying to get the house back in order (we had workers here while we were gone) it has been nice to sleep in our own bed.

Ryne and I met Alan for lunch at the Galleria on Wednesday. Ryne got to ride the carousel for the first time. He seemed to enjoy it. Alan put him on the elephant, of course...

April, our nanny, returned from her missons trip in Ecuador. She brought back some great gifts. Ryne got a pair of maracas that were just his size. He has played with them quite a bit. In fact, he went to bed with one in his hand tonight. He was holding it during story time and never put it down. I put him in his crib with it and when I looked in on him he was still holding on tight. ;)

Ryne started climbing on the hearth last night. It was kind of strange. He had been playing as usual and then all of the sudden he just walked over and climbed up. Alan and I looked at each other in shock. Alan was sitting near by so he grabbed him before he fell off.

As you can see he wasn't too happy with Daddy. We see this face a lot here lately... for example, when we take dog food out of his hand or we hide the remote control (he likes to beat it on the coffee table). He has a temper just like his father. Ha!

Ahhhh, the little red wagon. It's a must have... a staple in a kid's toy collection. I'm not sure Ryne understands the concept yet. If you sit something in it he throws it out and he rarely pulls it with the wheels on the ground. Maybe he will get the picture once we start pulling him in his big one.

P.S. Before I went to bed I checked on Ryne. He had finally let go of the maraca so I took it out of his crib. :)

beach trip

Recently we traveled to the gulf for a much needed vacation. We left Ryne (the first time) for a few days with my parents while we stayed in Destin, FL. I was worried about leaving him, but he did great. No tears for Mom or Dad.
Once we returned from our "break" we took Ryne to Gulf Shores. His first trip to the beach wasn't exactly what I had imagined. It didn't help that he had fallen asleep by the time we got there. We had to wake him up, lather him with sunblock and strap his hat on. He wasn't thrilled about any of it. It was a windy day and the waves were out of control. Ryne didn't like the ocean splashing up on him or the hot sand. He ended up falling asleep again! Is this really MY child?! I love the beach... practically lived there every summer. He did seem to be a little intrigued by the seagulls and enjoyed showering off. Maybe he will enjoy it more next year.

happy anniversary

On Saturday, May 31st Alan and I celebrated 5 years of wedded bliss... Ok, maybe not all days have been blissful, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. God has blessed me with a wonderful husband and I am truly grateful. I recently looked at our wedding pictures and thought about how much our lives have changed in such a short time. Friends have come and gone, we have said good-bye to loved ones, we changed homes, cars, jobs and now we have a son. Life has been exciting, boring, but mostly satisfying. I can't wait to see who and where we are after another 5 years together.

To the man who has seen me at my worst and still loves me, Happy Anniversary! I love you always.
