I can hardly believe it's been 10 weeks (tomorrow) since we brought Emma Kate home. This evening I was looking at pictures from the day she was born, at a little over 6lbs she seemed so tiny. Not only did we have a beautiful & healthy baby girl that day our friends, the Danleys, did too. To make a long story short, Leigh Ann and I share the same doctor and were due just days apart. I kept telling her we would be racing to see who delivered first... not really thinking we would have our babies on the same day. We did!!! About 15 minutes before Emma Kate was born the Danley's baby girl entered the world. I'm sure we violated some HIPPA laws; communicating back and forth over the intercom and watching the computer for contractions & babies' heartbeats. I basically had to wait on Leigh Ann to deliver before I could start pushing. Once the doctor got to our room He barely had time to get his gloves on before Emma Kate arrived. It took us a few minutes to decide on her name and when we did Alan emailed Franklin (they had been doing this all morning on their blackberries) to tell him she was here. We then found out Franklin and Leigh Ann were thinking about naming their baby Emma! Friday night we wheeled Emma Kate to their room for a little party. They still hadn't given their baby a name. There's this rule about naming the baby before you leave the hospital... so on Saturday morning they named her Anna Aldridge.

Although Emma Kate may favor her big brother she has been a totally different baby. The first night we brought her home I was prepared to be up all night with her. That is what I was use to, but I guess she didn't get the memo. I actually had to wake her up in the middle of the night to feed her!!! Could it be that God had blessed me with a "sleeper"?! He did! She has never woken up more than once in the middle of the night since we brought her home. It has been such a blessing, I wondered how I would take care of a newborn and toddler while feeling like a zombie. The Lord never gives you more than you can handle, but has certainly given me more than I deserve. :) She is a sweetheart. When you talk to her she smiles and coos. Very laid back she really only cries when she is hungry, needs a new diaper, or if Ryne loves on her a little too hard. I think she enjoys watching Ryne. He is pretty entertaining (that's another blog waiting to happen). I have to watch him around her though. One night while I was upstairs and Alan was in the kitchen, Ryne picked Emma Kate up off the sofa! She was crying and I guess he thought he was helping. Alan came around the corner and there was Ryne, arms straight out and Emma Kate up against him. Note to self (yet again): DO NOT LEAVE BABY ALONE WITH TODDLER... unless she is strapped down. ;)
